The Mount Polley Fishing Derby was a huge success!
It was a great weekend that brought together families, fishers and boaters, local vendors, and musicians. The derby was a public event held at Cedar Point Park on Quesnel Lake over the July 8-10 weekend. Kids enjoyed games in the park and local vendors showcased their goods at the Sunday market. On Saturday night the Markabilies raised the roof at the Likely Community Hall dance (co-hosted by Mount Polley and the Likely & District Chamber of Commerce).
The lake trout were active and biting and our derby contestants pulled in some impressive catches. Congratulations to all 8 winners in both the adult and kids’ categories. Pictured below, derby winner Tyler Mitchell pulled the largest trout at 12lbs 13oz. Over $3600 in cash prizes were handed out, as well as several great door-prizes donated by local businesses.
Mount Polley is proud to support initiatives that benefit and serve the local community. The event raised $20,850 which has been donated to the Likely & District Chamber of Commerce. The funds will be put toward building a new children’s playground at Cedar Point Park.
A big thanks to everyone who participated and to the many local businesses who donated derby draw prizes. Special thanks to Wes Gainer and his wife Allie for their hard work in organizing the derby weekend and for ensuring it was a safe and fun event for all!
