Celebrating Families at Mount Polley’s Family Day

Mount Polley hosted its inaugural Family Day events in September to thank the families of the workers that keep Mount Polley moving forward. Over 300 employees and their families participated in this fun and educational event at Mount Polley. Thank you to everyone who came out to join us and made these events so special. Your participation and enthusiasm created a memorable experience for all!

A Day Full of Fun Activities

The event offered a wide range of activities for all ages. The children and young guests enjoyed face painting, a bouncy castle, a gold panning station, toy axe throwing, children’s booklets and other fun games, along with fantastic food and beverages that kept everyone fueled throughout the day.

Exploring the Site: Tours and Equipment Displays

A highlight of the day was the chance for guests to see the mine operations. A series of tours provided visitors the opportunity to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of the technical aspects of the mine.

Tours included a short bus ride to a viewing platform from which to see the pit and observe the work being done in the Springer and Cariboo pits (now combined into one large Springer Pit).

Guests were also treated to a guided tour of the mill where they learned how the ore is processed to produce the final product; copper concentrate that also contains gold and silver. The tour included explanations from Mount Polley staff of the processing steps along with podiums set up along the way to provide additional information about each stage of the milling process.

Families also got up close to some of the heavy equipment used at the mine, such as excavators, dozers and haul trucks.

A Focus on Safety

Safety is always our top priority and these weekends with children visiting their parents place of work provided an inspiring reminder of just how important the safety of our employees is to both us and their families.

As part of the day’s activities, the children created a special sign that reads: “Worksafe begins with me so I can go home to you.” Each child placed their handprints on the sign, turning it into a symbol of what truly matters—the families who count on us to stay safe every day.

“Family Day was a great opportunity to show our families what we do here every day and how seriously we take safety. Seeing the children put their handprints on the sign was a powerful moment for all of us,” said Kelly Parker, Mount Polley Mine Manager.

This sign will be mounted at the mine and now serves as a powerful reminder to every employee at Mount Polley that safety isn’t just a protocol—it’s personal. It’s our responsibility to look out for each other, make safe choices, and ensure we return home safely every day.

The Safety Department was also proud to display our ambulance and safety gear, highlighting the importance of safety in every aspect of our work.

We would like to thank all the families who joined us for Family Day helping make this a special event. Mount Polley extends our thanks to our personnel for their hard work and commitment to Mount Polley.

Looking Ahead

Family Day at Mount Polley was not just about fun; it was an opportunity for the families of our employees to learn about mining and Mount Polley, and our commitment to workplace safety and responsible mining practices throughout our operations.

We hope to have inspired a future generation of miners to support the future of mining in BC!
